Mariah Carey is showing that she can make it through the rain.
The singer's ex-husband, Nick Cannon—with whom she shares 13-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan—shared an update on how she's holding up after losing her mother, Patricia Hickey, and sister, Alison Carey, on the same day back in August.
"She’s doing the best that she possibly can, considering the circumstances," Cannon told Page Six in a story published Sept. 18. "But as a family, we just got to be there to support one another, show love."
The Wild 'N Out host, 43, added that Carey, 55, has been leaning on their children for support in the weeks since she lost her mom and sister.
"She’s really having a great time with the kids," Cannon said. "That is, you know, the most important thing in the world to her, so it’s outstanding to see them supporting their mom the way they do."
Carey shared the heartbreaking news on Aug. 27, confirming that she had lost her mother and sister the previous weekend at the ages of 87 and 63, respectively. Further details, including their causes of death, have not been confirmed.
"My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day," the Grammy winner said in a statement at the time. "I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed."
She added, "I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time."
Two weeks later, the "Always Be My Baby" singer announced she was "back at work" and thanked fans for their support during the difficult time.
"It’s been a couple of rough weeks, but I appreciate everyone’s love and support so much," Carey said in a Sept. 8 Instagram post. "I can’t wait to see my fans in China & Brazil. Love you!"
The Glitter star had previously been very candid about her tumultuous relationship with both her mother and sister over the years. In her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah, Carey detailed her complicated feelings about them.
"Like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother has been full of contradictions and competing realities," she wrote. "It's never been only black-and-white—it's been a whole rainbow of emotions."
She added that, when she was 12 years old, her sister—who was eight years older than her—treated her poorly and exposed her to illicit substances.
"[She] drugged me with Valium, offered me a pinky nail full of cocaine," Carey wrote, "inflicted me with third-degree burns, and tried to sell me out to a pimp."
She added that she is "still struggling through that time."
